Birthplace of Tun Abdul Razak

Kampung Pulau Keladi is among the oldest villages in Pekan District, apart from Kampung Mengkasar, Kampung Parit and Kampung Besta. This village is located about 5 km from the Royal Town of Pekan. Pulau Keladi, believed to have been established by Pucat Ahmad and Juragan Mahmud, is divided into two smaller villages, i.e. Kampung Medangsa and Kampung Pulau Keladi. The majority of the houses are made from timber from forest trees like nibung, buluh and nipah. The design of the houses are considered to be Traditional Malay , until today.
One of the houses built in those days belonged to a gentleman called Haji Daud Abdul Rahman and his wife Nurita Sulaiman. The house was later inhabited by Tuk Hussein Mohd Taib who was the 'Orang Kaya Kesembilan Indera Shah Bandar' ( or the Ninth Rich Man of Indera Shah Bandar) and his wife Hajjah Fatimah Daud. Their son, the second Prime Minister of Malaysia , was born in that house. The house was later taken over by the Pahang State Museum in 1985 and was rebuilt in the same traditional style, but incorporating modern building materials. The house was rebuilt using cengal wood and became the model for the traditional house in the state of Pahang.
In common with other Malay houses, the house is divided into three sections: the verandah, the main house and the kitchen. Tun Razak's collections, particularly his photograph collection depicting various activities, are exhibited throughout the house. The bed in which he slept as a boy is also on exhibition there. Following the completion of the rebuilding project, the house was re-opened to the public in April 1986. The house is open from 9.00am to 5.oopm every day except Monday, with an entrance fee of RM 1.00.
